The "Atlas of ocean wealth", published in June 2016 by The Nature Conservancy, maps the benefices of all ocean ecosystems which provide vital resources; "from fish production to tourism, water purification to coastal protection". This atlas illustrates all these services in order to develop and improve management, economics and financing of marine resources. Atlas of Ocean Wealth
The contribution of these ecosystems in the fight against global warming is a valuable asset which is important to highlight. Marine ecosystems are under pressure due to the economic activities, population and climate change. Some of them are more exposed than others to this seriously threat. This Atlas reports that over 200 million people live close to mangroves and many of them depend on this ecosystem for daily living.
The Blue Forests Project explores the value of Blue Carbon and all related ecosystems and fits perfectly into the vision of the Atlas of Ocean Wealth. The Blue Forest Project plans to develop furthermore and promote the benefits provided by ecosystems in order to develop policies and convince government to develop themselves policies and law around coastal ecosystems and marine biodiversity.
