The Blue Forests Solutions website is officially live. This online toolkit is a launching point for developing coastal sustainability opportunities, projects and policies that recognize and utilize the natural values and ecosystem benefits that coastal and marine ecosystems support.
Blue Forests Solutions was developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Blue Forests Project partners to provide tools and guidance at multiple scales – from local communities to national governments – on how to harness blue carbon and other ecosystem benefits and services that support sustainable outcomes and increase resilience in the face of global environmental changes.
Divided into four pathways – Ecosystems, Economy, Policy, and Communities – this online toolkit includes case studies, links to tools and resources, and answers to key questions on how to improve ecosystem management and support sustainable livelihoods while mitigating climate change.
Information and resources from each Blue Forests Project case study location are easily accessible within the site. Users can read about project goals, benefits, challenges, and successes from experiences in Ecuador, Kenya, Madagascar, the United Arab Emirates, the Dominican Republic, and Indonesia.
From each pathway page, users can also engage with questions commonly asked during the development and implementation phases of a blue forests project for guidance. Featured topics range from ecosystem services assessments, to carbon finance, to international climate agreements, to social justice and community safeguards, and much more.
